How to apply

  1. Check your eligibility at education.nsw.gov.au/skills-nsw/students-and-job-seekers/how-to-enrol — you must be at least 15 years old, no longer at high school, living or working in NSW, and an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen.
  2. Review the NSW Skills List at nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/vocational/funding/nsw-skills-list to confirm your desired course is government-subsidised under Smart and Skilled.
  3. Use the Skills NSW course finder (online.training.nsw.gov.au/sands/find-a-course) to locate an approved Smart and Skilled training provider offering your course.
  4. Contact the training provider directly to confirm course availability, your subsidy eligibility, and any applicable exemptions.
  5. Obtain or confirm your Unique Student Identifier (USI) at usi.gov.au — this is mandatory for enrolment.
  6. Complete the provider's enrolment paperwork, including the Notification of Enrolment (NoE) — a mandatory NSW Government form the provider submits to secure your Smart and Skilled subsidy.
  7. Provide required identity documents and evidence of citizenship/residency to the provider; sign the consent and declaration forms.
  8. Pay any applicable student fee (all students can access subsidised training up to Certificate III level regardless of prior qualifications; fees apply for Certificate IV and above with concessions available).
  9. Begin training once the provider has confirmed your enrolment and the subsidy has been secured.
