How to apply

  1. Confirm your eligibility: for a standard 'Taking Leave' claim you need 10 years of industry service (2,200 service credits); for a 'Leaving the Industry' claim you need 7 years registered with at least 1,155 service credits.
  2. Log in to or create an account on the QLeave online portal at qleave.qld.gov.au/portal-landing-page.
  3. Select the appropriate claim type: 'Taking Leave' (standard leave while employed), 'Leaving the Industry' (permanently ceasing building/construction work), or 'Personal Representative' (for a deceased worker's estate — contact QLeave directly for this type).
  4. Complete the online claim form, entering the leave period, your bank account details, and tax file number.
  5. Note that you must not perform any work during the claim period for a 'Taking Leave' claim, and a minimum of five days must be claimed (except for final claims).
  6. Submit the claim online; paper forms are available by contacting QLeave on 1300 753 283 if you cannot access the portal — paper forms cannot be submitted by email.
  7. QLeave processes the claim and pays your entitlement directly to your bank account; the weekly payment is capped at $2,462 per week (from 1 July 2025).
  8. Tax is withheld in accordance with ATO requirements and calculated on your gross weekly wage rate, not the lump sum.
