How to apply

  1. Check the VETASSESS occupation list at vetassess.com.au/check-my-occupation to confirm your trade is assessed by VETASSESS (not TRA or another body); VETASSESS covers approximately 25 trade occupations
  2. Determine your pathway: Pathway 1 (overseas qualifications only — includes a practical assessment or technical interview) or Pathway 2 (holds an Australian qualification — includes a technical interview)
  3. Prepare required evidence: employment records, qualification certificates, identity documents, and for Pathway 1 from 1 January 2026, complete a mandatory Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment
  4. Create an account on the VETASSESS online portal at vetassess.com.au and submit a Stage 1 documentary evidence application, paying the Stage 1 fee of AUD $1,120 by credit card
  5. VETASSESS reviews your Stage 1 submission (approximately 8–16 weeks); if progressed, you will be invoiced a Stage 2 fee of AUD $2,000 (Pathway 1 practical/interview) or AUD $900 (Pathway 2 technical interview)
  6. Attend the practical assessment or technical interview, which may be conducted in Australia or at one of VETASSESS's international assessment centres (India, UK, China, South Africa, Southeast Asia)
  7. If required by your program, attend a Stage 3 practical assessment at AUD $2,200
  8. Receive your assessment outcome by email; use the positive result to support a skilled migration visa application through the Department of Home Affairs
