How to apply

  1. Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation (e.g., Engineers Australia, VETASSESS, ACS)
  2. Sit an approved English language test and achieve the required score if you have not already done so
  3. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect via the Department of Home Affairs ImmiAccount portal at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au
  4. Check the occupation list and specific requirements for your preferred state or territory (each state publishes its own Skilled Occupation List and criteria)
  5. Submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) or direct nomination application through your chosen state or territory's portal (e.g., Live in Melbourne for VIC, NSW Skills portal, Migration WA)
  6. If your EOI is selected by the state, accept the invitation and submit a full state nomination application with supporting documents within the specified timeframe
  7. Upon receiving a state nomination outcome, accept the nomination in SkillSelect (you gain 5 extra points for subclass 190 or 15 extra for 491)
  8. Lodge your subclass 190 or 491 visa application with the Department of Home Affairs via ImmiAccount within 60 days of nomination (for most states)
  9. Provide biometrics and health/character checks as requested by the Department of Home Affairs during visa processing
