How to apply

  1. Use the TRA Program Pathfinder on the TRA website to identify which TRA program (Migration Skills Assessment, Provisional Skills Assessment, or Job Ready Program) applies to your occupation, passport country, and visa type
  2. Check the Australian Qualifications by Occupation list to confirm your trade is assessed at AQF Certificate III level and falls under TRA's scope
  3. Gather required documents: valid passport, overseas qualification certificates and academic transcripts (certified), detailed employment references describing duties and hours worked, and evidence of any trade registration or licensing
  4. Create an account on the TRA Online Portal at tradesrecognitionaustralia.gov.au and commence a new application
  5. Complete all mandatory fields in the online application, upload colour PDF copies of all required documents, and pay the application fee by Visa or Mastercard (Migration Skills Assessment: approximately AUD $795; fees are GST-free and set by legislative instrument under the Migration Regulations 1994)
  6. Submit the application — TRA will review documentary evidence and may request a technical interview or practical assessment depending on the program pathway
  7. Monitor your application status through the TRA Online Portal; processing for a Migration Skills Assessment takes approximately 4 months
  8. Receive your outcome by email; a positive assessment is valid for 3 years and is used to support a skilled migration visa application to the Department of Home Affairs
