How to apply

  1. Hold a current learner licence for at least 12 months (ages 17–24) and complete the required supervised driving hours (100 hours including 10 at night in most states)
  2. Book and pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) at your state licensing authority
  3. Book and pass the practical driving test at a Service NSW centre, TMR service centre, VicRoads office, or equivalent state office
  4. Download and complete the Licence Application form (Form 1001 in NSW; equivalent form in other states) — available from the relevant state transport website
  5. Gather required documents: current learner licence, proof of identity, corrective lens details if applicable, and concession card details if applicable
  6. Visit your state's licensing service centre in person with the completed form, documents, and payment
