How to apply

1. Confirm eligibility: the applicant must be in a genuine, ongoing relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who will complete Form 40SP as sponsor.
2. Create or log into an ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au.
3. Select 'New application' and choose the relevant partner visa stream: Stage 1 — Partner or Prospective Marriage Visa (subclasses 300, 309/100 or 820/801).
4. Complete Form 47SP online within ImmiAccount, providing personal details, passport information, relationship history, family composition, and character and health declarations.
5. Gather and upload all supporting documents including relationship evidence (photos, communication records, joint finances, statutory declarations), health examination results, police clearances, and Form 80 if requested.
6. Ensure the sponsor has completed and submitted their Form 40SP sponsorship declaration within ImmiAccount.
7. Pay the visa application charge (currently AUD $9,365 for the primary applicant as of July 2025; additional charges apply for secondary applicants).
8. Submit the application through ImmiAccount and retain the Transaction Reference Number (TRN) for tracking.
9. Respond to any requests from the Department for further information or biometrics within the specified timeframes.
