How to apply

1. Determine whether your circumstances qualify — accepted grounds include serious illness or injury, death of a close family member, significant trauma, or other sudden unavoidable events that directly impacted your exam or assessment
2. Gather supporting evidence before applying — typically a medical certificate from an AHPRA-registered practitioner, a student declaration form describing the circumstances, or official letters (employer, spiritual leader, etc.) depending on your situation
3. Log in to your university's student portal (e.g. Sydney Student, MyANU, QUT HiQ, StudentConnect) and navigate to the Special Consideration or Deferred Exam application section
4. Complete and submit the online application form — include your student ID, affected assessment details, and upload supporting documentation
5. Submit by the required deadline — most universities require submission before the exam or no later than 2–3 working days after the affected assessment
6. Await outcome notification — typically sent to your university email within 5–10 working days
7. If approved, complete the deferred exam or alternative assessment in the scheduled deferred exam period or as directed by your faculty
