How to apply

  1. Install interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms meeting Australian Standard AS 3786-2014 in every bedroom, hallway, and on each level of the dwelling

  3. Before selling: ensure all alarms are installed and operational before the contract of sale is signed (mandatory from 1 January 2022 for properties being transferred)
  4. Complete the smoke alarm compliance declaration on the Form 24 (Property Information Transfer) — your conveyancer will prepare this as part of the settlement documents
  5. For landlords: test and clean each smoke alarm within 30 days before the start of each tenancy and record this in the Entry Condition Report
  6. At settlement, provide the signed Form 24 with the smoke alarm compliance declaration to the buyer's conveyancer as part of the transfer package
