How to apply
- Confirm you arrived in Australia without authorisation and are not barred from applying for a Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785) under the Migration Act 1958.
- Create or log in to an ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au — the TPV application is lodged online and you must be physically present in Australia to apply.
- Complete the protection visa application within ImmiAccount, indicating you wish to be considered for a Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785) rather than a permanent Protection Visa (subclass 866).
- Provide identity documents including passport, national identity card, or other evidence of nationality; submit biometrics if requested by the Department.
- Complete a health examination via an approved panel physician if required, and submit police clearance certificates for any country you have lived in for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
- Sign the Australian Values Statement as part of the online application.
- Pay the application fee of AUD $45 within ImmiAccount.
- Await notification from the Department — processing typically takes 12–24 months; respond promptly to any requests for further information.
- If approved, receive a 3-year TPV granting the right to work, study, and access government services including Medicare and Centrelink; note that overseas travel is heavily restricted.
