How to apply
- Confirm eligibility: hold a Certificate III in the relevant electrical trade and meet the 'fit and proper person' requirements under the Occupational Licensing Act 2005 (Tas)
- Gather supporting documents: certified proof of identity, qualification certificate, any relevant licence history, and declarations regarding past convictions or disciplinary matters
- If your last licence expired more than 3 years ago, obtain evidence of a successful electrical competency assessment before applying
- Create or log into the CBOS My Licence online portal at occupationallicensing.justice.tas.gov.au and commence the application
- Upload all required documents within the portal and complete the statutory declaration questions, providing additional documentation for any 'yes' answers
- Pay the licence fee online by Visa or Mastercard ($401.10 for a 1-year licence, current from 1 July 2025), or in person at a Service Tasmania shop
- If applying from interstate or overseas, arrange a passport-sized photo certified by a Commissioner for Declarations or Justice of the Peace
- Await processing — successful applicants receive confirmation within 21 days
- Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) obligations throughout the licence period as required by CBOS
