How to apply

  1. Confirm you are receiving Youth Allowance (student) or ABSTUDY Living Allowance as a full-time student enrolled in an accredited higher education or preparatory course.
  2. Confirm you meet the relocation requirement: you must move to or from a regional or remote area for study, or move out of the family home for the first time to study.
  3. Log in to your myGov account linked to Centrelink (my.gov.au) to check whether your payment is being auto-assessed — most eligible students do not need to lodge a separate claim.
  4. If Services Australia sends you a letter requesting verification, download the Verification of Campus form from your Centrelink online account or a service centre.
  5. Complete the student section of the Verification of Campus form, then have your higher education provider complete and sign the campus details section.
  6. Submit the completed form and any supporting documents online via your Centrelink online account, by post, or in person at a Services Australia service centre.
  7. If you change campus, course, or study location during the year, notify Centrelink promptly as this may affect your entitlement for subsequent years.
  8. Payment is deposited automatically once eligibility is confirmed — first-year payment is $5,707; subsequent years are lower ($1,425 in 2025–26 for most).
