RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship (FARGP) + Specialist Rural Generalist Recognition

The RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship is an additional qualification earned on top of standard GP Fellowship (FRACGP), where a GP completes 12 months of Additional/Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST) in disciplines such as emergency medicine, anaesthetics, obstetrics, mental health or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health to safely serve rural and remote communities. It replaces the earlier Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP), which existing holders can transition from. Separately, in September 2025 Australia's Health Ministers formally recognised Rural Generalist Medicine as a new field of specialty practice within General Practice, creating the protected title 'specialist rural generalist'. Once a registrar holds the qualification, that field is noted on their AHPRA registration under General Practice.
