Queensland building and construction employers must register with QLeave, notify it of qualifying projects (total cost $150,000+ excl. GST), pay a levy of 0.575% of total work cost, and lodge an annual worker service return by 31 July each year.

How to apply
- Register your business with QLeave online via the QLeave portal (free — no registration fee) or download and post the paper registration form from qleave.qld.gov.au
- Register each eligible worker (trades workers, labourers, apprentices, casual and labour hire) with QLeave when they commence
- Notify QLeave of each new building or construction project with a total cost of $150,000 or more (excl. GST) via the Building and Construction Levy Portal before a development permit is issued or, if no permit, before work starts
- Calculate the levy at 0.575% of total project cost using the online levy calculator on qleave.qld.gov.au
- Pay the levy online through the Building and Construction Levy Portal (or by paper form lodged at the QLeave office or by mail)
- Update work details if project scope or cost changes, and finalise work details when a project is complete
- Lodge the annual Worker Service Return for each eligible worker by 31 July each year via the online portal (standard entry or bulk spreadsheet upload); submit a nil return if no eligible workers were engaged
- Notify QLeave when a worker terminates employment and keep records as required under the Building and Construction Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 1991
