The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) is the lifetime traceability system for cattle, sheep, goats and (from 2025-2027) all small ruminants nationally. Every animal must wear an NLIS-accredited RFID (cattle) or visual / electronic tag (sheep / goats), and every property-to-property movement must be recorded in the NLIS database within 48 hours.
