How to apply
- Check eligibility: hold or be enrolled in an approved celebrancy qualification and pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
- Create an account on the Marriage Celebrants Portal at the AG's Department website
- Complete the Application for Registration as a Marriage Celebrant online, or download the form and email it with supporting documents to marriagecelebrantssection@ag.gov.au
- Submit the completed NCCHC Application and Informed Consent Form alongside your registration application
- Pay the one-off, non-refundable application fee of $400 (exemptions available in low-supply postcodes)
- Wait for the Registrar of Marriage Celebrants to assess your application — do not advertise, accept NOIMs, or solemnise marriages until notified of registration
- Once registered, pay the $170 annual charge invoiced each July within 60 days to maintain registration; failure to pay results in deregistration
- Log into the self-service portal annually to update contact and practice details and confirm continuing professional development (CPD) compliance
