Apply for a Customer Reference Number (CRN) for a child
A Customer Reference Number (CRN) is the unique identifier Services Australia uses for every person — your child needs their own CRN so you can claim Family Tax Benefit, link them in myGov, manage their Medicare and (later) Child Care Subsidy. Most parents get the child's CRN automatically when they claim Newborn Upfront Payment, but you can also request one separately.
