How to apply

1. Download the official myID app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (search 'myID' — verify it shows the Australian Government branding)
2. Open the app and enter your personal email address, full legal name (must match your identity documents exactly), and date of birth
3. This gives you Basic identity strength, sufficient for limited services
4. To reach Standard identity strength (required for most federal services including myGov, ATO, Medicare, Centrelink): verify any 2 Australian identity documents — options include Australian passport (current or expired up to 3 years), driver's licence, birth certificate, Medicare card, ImmiCard, citizenship certificate, or visa
5. To reach Strong identity strength (required for all participating services): complete the photo verification step in the app, which confirms you are a real person and matches your face to your documents in real time
6. Connect your myID to myGov: log in to my.gov.au, select Sign in with Digital ID, enter your myID email address, accept the 4-digit code displayed and enter it in the myID app, and consent to share your identity information
7. Link individual government services (Centrelink, Medicare, ATO, etc.) within myGov using your myID-verified identity
8. To use myID for business (ATO Tax Agent, Online Services for Business, RAM): visit ato.gov.au/myid and follow the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) linking steps
