GP (General Purpose) is the lower of the two AS/NZS 1554.1 weld categories — used for statically loaded structural steel where fatigue is not a design issue. Common on platforms, walkways, balustrades and non-critical bracing. Lets you weld to looser visual acceptance limits than SP and is the entry tier for most steel fabrication shops.
