AS 1796 is the legacy national welder certification standard — Certificate Numbers 1 to 10 issued by Weld Australia (formerly WTIA) cover plate, pipe and pressure work in defined positions and processes. Still nominated in older specifications and by some heritage rail / power utility principals; AS 3992 and ISO 9606 are the modern equivalents but AS 1796 tickets remain recognised.
