How to apply

1. Obtain a court order (parenting order, injunction, or interim order) that specifically restricts or prevents the child's overseas travel and requests AFP placement on the Watch List.
2. Download the Family Law Watchlist Request Form from https://www.afp.gov.au/sites/default/files/2023-07/FamilyLawWatchlistRequestForm.pdf.
3. Complete the form with the child's details and the relevant court order reference.
4. Email the completed form together with a copy of the court documentation to alerts@afp.gov.au (fax alternative: (02) 6126 7914).
5. If the child needs to travel lawfully while on the Watch List (e.g. with a parent who has consent), notify the AFP at least 10 working days before departure with authenticated evidence of consent from all relevant parties.
6. Carry proof of the consent/court permission when travelling, as AFP border officers may require sight of it at the departure point.
7. If travel consent cannot be agreed between parents, apply to the FCFCOA for a specific order permitting travel before approaching AFP.
